  3. WHAT IT IS: Content Label Rating (CLR) is a system for labeling software
  4. and packaging to indicate contents such as violence or sexual material
  5. which may be of special concern to parents or other consumers prior to
  6. purchase.
  7.  
  8. PURPOSE: To provide software authors and publishers with a simple,
  9. inexpensive method of labeling or rating their products for sale or
  10. distribution in retail stores or other environments where such labeling may
  11. be needed or required.
  12.  
  13. WHO MAY USE IT: Anyone who writes or publishes software.

  30. HOW TO USE CLR:
  31.  
  32. Study the Adjective and Adverb lists (below). Select one or more adjectives
  33. which best describe your product. If appropriate, precede each adjective
  34. with a suitable adverb. Remember, you can use as many or as few adjectives
  35. as you like. Each adjective may stand alone or may be preceded by one
  36. adverb.

  38. Select the logo format(s) which can best be used with your product,
  39. documentation, or packaging. If necessary, convert BMP files to a different
  40. graphics format.
  41.  
  42. Using a suitable graphics tool or text editor, add the adjective(s) you
  43. have chosen to the logo(s).
  44.  
  45. Incorporate the completed logo into your software, documentation, or
  46. package design.
  47.  
  48. In situations where none of the logos can be used, use the abbreviation CLR
  49. and a colon, followed by your adjective(s).

  51. DOs AND DON'Ts
  52.  
  53.  YOU MAY:
  54.  
  55.  * Convert the BMP files to some other graphics form (PCX, WPG, etc.)
  56.  * Make the logo larger or smaller to accommodate your adjective list
  57.  * Make the logo larger or smaller to fit your product
  58.  * Use as many adjectives as you need to describe your product, using
  59.    your own judgment
  60.  * Include the logo in your EXE file, data files, documentation, printed
  61.    manual, advertising or packaging
  62.  * Use any font you like for your adjective list
  63.  
  64.  YOU MAY NOT:
  65.  
  66.  * Change the design elements of the logo: Do not change the shape except
  67.    to lengthen or shorten it vertically to accommodate your adjective list.
  68.    You may widen the ASCII-format logos if necessary to accommodate the
  69.    adjectives. Do not change the border design. Do not change the colors,
  70.    except that you may convert to gray scale if necessary for your
  71.    application. Do not change the font used in the phrase Content Label
  72.    Rating
  73.  * Change or add adjectives or adverbs: Make sure you use only adjectives
  74.    and adverbs from the lists provided with CLR. Do not use more than one
  75.    adverb with a single adjective.

  134. has been, in the public domain. The copyright holder grants you permission
  135. to use and copy CLR subject to the terms and conditions outlined in this
  136. document and in the file VENDINFO.DIZ. If you are unwilling or unable to
  137. comply with these terms, do not use or copy CLR.

  139. You may use CLR for the purpose of labeling or rating software products as
  140. long as you follow the instructions contained in this document.
